What is lion dance?

A centuries-old tradition, with a modern, playful twist

Lion dance is a much-loved Chinese tradition, performed at celebrations to bring energy, joy and good wishes. At RaRa, children experience it as a combination of five things:

  • Chinese culture

Discover the stories, symbols and celebrations behind one of the best-loved Chinese traditions.

  • Movement

Build strength, balance and coordination through stances, footwork and lion head and tail skills.

  • Rhythm

Feel the beat of the drum, cymbals and gong, and learn to move as one with the music.

  • Creativity

Bring your own ideas into routines, so every performance is uniquely yours.

  • Teamwork

Head and tail, dancers and musicians: a lion only comes alive when everyone works together.
